The few months “minisabbatical” in Paris was amazing, and very productive. The downside was that I got pretty behind on updating this page, and I still have a lot of work to do there. But in the meantime, I want to announce the new group hires, that resulted from two recent searches. Firstly, Riley Connors from University of Leicester will be joining us as a PhD student starting in September. He will be working on the Galactic supermassive black hole Sgr A* and considering its relationship to the broader class of black holes. And starting in October, Dr. Chiara Ceccobello will join us from University of Ferrara in Italy as a postdoc. She will work on developing new jet models that are based on more physically accurate, magnetohydrodynamical scenarios. I am really looking forward to having them here, and the work that we will do together!
In the meantime I am very happy that my two recently graduated PhD students both got great postdoctoral positions! Dr. Samia Drappeau will go to IRAP in Toulouse to work on high-energy jet modelling, among other things, with Drs. Julien Malzac and Renaud Belmont. And Dr. Peter Polko received a Gravity Postdoctoral Fellowship at U Maryland, where he will work with Prof. Jonathan McKinney and others on GRMHD simulations of jets and accretion.
I’m not supposed to work on my vacation but maybe fixing up my website doesn’t count? I really want to update especially the group page to finally get all the current and former members there and correctly listed!

Hi everybody!
I would like to thank you all for the pleasant welcome you gave me this morning.
I am really excited to be in Amsterdam and work at API. I really would like to become an active member of this group and provide a lot of ideas and “manpower” to get some new interesting scientific results. I hope to be a nice person to work with and I will work on it every single day….cakes help! But not too much please otherwise there could be some issues with me and myself 😉 Just kidding, of course!
Thank you guys again for the lovely welcome!
