I keep trying to get the traffic up from my group but it’s hard to remember to post although there is a lot going on (or because there is a lot going on). Anyway, we have some very nice news this week:
1) Salomé has accepted an offer for a postdoctoral position with Elmar Körding’s group at University of Nijmegen! Maybe she wants to say more but I’ll leave that to her. She had a busy start to the year doing conference talks and lecture tours, but it definitely paid off!
2) We just finished the 2014 PhD recruitment round for the API and we had an amazing amount of great candidates for our positions! I am pleased that one of them, Adam Ciesielski from Poland, has accepted an offer to work with Ralph Wijers and me on transient jet physics, combining our expertise to focus on things like tidal disruption events. We were also recruiting for GRAPPA and I am also excited that one of the GRAPPA PhD fellowships was awarded to Jelle Aalbers, who will work mostly with Patrick Decowski on dark matter direct detection, but do a sideline of research with me on theoretical modelling of neutrino fluxes!
3) My visiting MSc student, Klim Mikhailov, from Russia, was offered a PhD position in the group of Joeri van Leeuwen on pulsars and burst studies!
So things are going great here, it’s been a very good week. We also found out that our MSc program in Astronomy & Astrophysics was voted in the top 15 of all MSc programs in the NL! I can’t take all credit but since I am the director of the program I sure feel proud of my students and our staff for this achievement!
